March update from the Filbruns 2021

Hello friends and family! We always hope this finds you doing well. March has been a little different of a month for us. The virus has caused quite a bit of shutdown in the country. There has been a covid outbreak in Phnom Penh as well as a few tourist towns along the coast. Battambang has had only one person with the virus so far. They have set up quarantine camps close to our home. Because of this they are shutting down travel between the provinces. It was requested that our family not travel to the village. Most of the villagers know our family and know we are from here but some do not. This led to several boring days but we felt it was most honorable to the government and surrounding locals that we stay home. We (as well as the Khmer people) are required to wear a mask in public and while driving a Moto. Being caught without one results in a $50 fine. This all happened around the middle of March and so we did get one last trip in to Sisapon before the shutdown.

Although it is currently hot season, Cambodia never disappoints in its beauty! God has created such a beautiful country!

Battambang is known for its French influence in the building structures.

The first of March we headed to Sisapon with our family. We arrived early on a Sunday morning in time to travel to a few house churches. We were able to deliver a few of these Bible Story books in Khmer!

Pastor Saron teaching a house church close to the Thailand border. We shared communion together and it was a blessed time.

Its quite common for people to ask for pictures of our children :)

Another house church. Britton was able to share some encouragement in Khmer to these brothers and sisters. A sweet time together.
Sweet Ming and another church member made us a delicious lunch. What a treat.

Wonderful hospitality.

We had the honor to celebrate Pastor Buntans birthday together with his family. Sharing laughter and memories together was so special.

One day we spent helping this dear Pastor clean up from the recent construction of his house. It was all smiles as we worked. Everyone jumped in and helped and it was looking beautiful again in no time.

Savanna loves Pastor Buntans grandchildren.

Headed home. We like to leave around 6 am for a few reasons. Less traffic so its safer for our family and not as hot.

We found a new road not yet open to the general public. We had to stop and take a picture when we seen Phnum Sompew (bat caves close to our home) in the distance. Such a beautiful drive. We usually stop halfway for coffee or a cold drink. Thankyou to everyone who prayed for us during this trip.

Days in Svey Kong always make us happy.

The children are working really hard to finish up this school year. We have about 3 weeks left until we are done. We have been taking our school books to the local coffee shop once a week to make things fun. We always enjoy when the principal joins us. Britton stayed busy a few days finishing up taxes and various other paper work.

One evening we joined our good friend Rith to a few locations we had never been to here in Battambang one being an ostrich farm another a resivore.

We enjoyed the evening eating snacks in the cool breeze.

Later we went to our friends home and he gave Savanna an orphaned baby kitty. Rosie is a sweet addition to our family. She loves goat milk and snuggles.

An afternoon of bubble tea on a family day.

A special treat here, replacing ice cream that we miss so much.

Another afternoon we joined Pastor Rambos family and Rith at the local resort. The game Risk is quite popular here and so that was the highlight of the afternoon.

Kristy celebrated her 34th birthday this month.

Evening out to a local pizza place with a few friends was a special way to end the birthday evening.

One afternoon we joined our friends the Millers in a soap making class. We enjoyed learning the process of making soap by a Korean Christian lady who works here in Battambang. A special outing for us girls while the boys enjoyed a afternoon of skating. Later we joined together for some grilled chicken and chocolate cake on our rooftop. We are thankful to be friends with the Millers and will miss them when they move to Phnom Penh in a couple months.

Another morning, another coffee shop.

Another afternoon and another game of Risk :) Lots of extra special time with our local Khmer friends.

We spent a afternoon at Antioch taking pictures for Cambodia Impact. Everything is looking so clean and nice.

No school for the children here in Cambodia.

Spiye Khdalp or cabbage in English. They are so happy with their garden. They sent us home with fresh lettuce and mangos.

Spending time with some new girls. Listening to long stories in Khmer from these sweet girls. Love their precious hearts!

Our children have been taking Khmer classes the last couple months. Jesse came to Cambodia when he was a baby so he really connects to our children. His heart is to spend time with missionary children and teach them language and culture. What a blessing!

Our good friend made our family fresh mango juice. YUM!

Laundry drying in the morning sun. Thanking God for every moment. We treasure our life here. This month was difficult being away from family. Kristys Grandpa, Mark Rumble passed away. He loved Jesus and shared from the Bible often with his family. We look forward to being in Heaven together someday soon!
We hope, Lord willing, things will begin to open up again and we can continue 100 percent back into our work.
