Hello from the Filbruns! As always hoping this finds our friends and family doing well. We've had another exciting month. We celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary on the 25th. Some of you might remember our outside wedding and how it proved to be quite the memorable event! Complete with a 2 hour long thunderstorm bringing torrents of rain. Sixteen years seems like a long time to be married but it also feels like yesterday. God has been very faithful and merciful and we know it wouldn't have been possible without our faith in Him.
Britton traveled to Sisapon a few times this month. Lots of various tasks to complete despite the Covid.
One morning Britton was in the village and he came across our little friends alone by themselves. After inquiring it seemed like the step mom had ran away and so they were left to fend for themselves. He brought them back to our home for a few days. Our hearts are always soft to any children who seem vulnerable here. We had a great time with them!
A lot to pack on the motos!
Sweet time together. Lots of love and attention was given.
One evening we ate out with our friends and we had to capture this photo. We seem to be a little tall for a country built for small people.
Beautiful local handmade baskets
Savanna said goodbye to her dearest friend here in Battambang. Myra and her family are moving to Oregon after eight years in Cambodia. Myras Dad founded the Crossfit gym on the YWAM base. We are sad to say goodbye to this family.
Another trip to Sisapon. Lots of trips to different house churches. Depending on the ever changing rules for Covid in Cambodia determines how much traveling to house churches there is. We want to be responsible and respectful and set a good example to the Khmer people.
We pulled the troops together to make homemade applesauce.
Talking to family back home! We miss our friends and family! Thankyou for always taking the time to connect with us!
Little Soak Na was favoring Carter on this certain Sunday in Svey Kong.
Happy Fathers Day to the best Daddy!
We spent Fathers Day celebrating by swimming at the local resort.
Evening worship with our kitty George.
No pictures of homeschool this month. All is going well with the children and their schooling. We continue to spend a day at a local coffee shop doing school to break the week up.
We made a family trip to Sisapon.
We came fully prepared to spend two days painting some new school rooms at the church. But in typical Khmer fashion things did not go as planned. The previous paint was not good quality so they had to sand it down which turned into quite the mess. We worked in other areas but not specifically painting like we originally planned.
A new baby was born and so there was constant cooking for the new Mother.
Kristy was able to help in the kitchen a couple days. What a treat to learn how to make authentic Khmer food!
Lots of planning between Britton and Pastor Buntan.
Savanna loves her little friends at Sisapon.
Little baby Olive is just to sweet!
One day Kristy had the opportunity to make the much requested spaghetti for the Sisapon group. A few ingredients were lacking like meat and spices but they got a small taste for western food. And as you can imagine they didn't care for the strange tasting food :))
Sweet potatoes and watermelon are the best snack breaks.
After church snacks of rats caught the night before.
We enjoyed our trip to Sisapon. We are thankful we can communicate in Khmer. Without our language training our experience wouldn't be the same.
We decided to travel a couple hours east to another town in Cambodia called Siem Reap. A very heavily visited town for foreigners. Unfortunately because of the Covid there is not many tourists.
A little bit of family time for a few nights. We also enjoyed spending an evening with our good friends before they moved to Phnom Penh.
We were able to visit Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat (Wat means temple in the Khmer language) is the biggest religious site in the world. It was built in the 12th century and is used now by the Buddhist. Before the Covid there was a estimated 20,000 people visiting a day bringing in around 1 million dollars a week. It was very strange that we were the only visitors on this day. Britton and Kristy traveled here in 2016. Our family has also came to Siem Reap for baptisms but never for a visit. We woke up early to catch a Tuk Tuk around 4:30 am. The sunrise was beautiful!
We visited 5 temples. The above picture is at the temple site that Angelina Jolie played her role in Tomb Raiders.
Britton took the children out for a fun game of put put golf.
We had a wonderful time together as a family. We found our favorite Lucky Burger, our favorite "American" tasting place in Battambang. But unfortunately it closed due to Covid.
It took us around 4 hours to arrive home. Quite the feat in this high heat. We thank God for keeping us safe and allowing us to have a good and prosperous time.
song by Steven Curtis Chapman
Nobody stood and applauded them
So they knew from the start
This road would not lead to fame
All they really knew for sure
Was Jesus had called to them
He said "come follow Me" and they came
With reckless abandon, they came
Empty nets lying there at the waters edge
Told a story that few could believe
And none could explain
How some crazy fisherman agreed to go where Jesus went
With no though to what they would gain
For Jesus had called them by name
And they answered
We will abandon it all for the sake of the call
No other reason at all but the sake of the call
Wholly devoted to live and to die for the sake of the call
Drawn like the rivers are drawn to the sea
Theres no turning back, for the water cannot help but flow
Once we hear the Saviors call, we'll follow wherever He leads
Because of the love He has shown
And because He has called us to go
We will answer
Not for the sake of a creed or a cause
Not for a dream or a promise
Simply because it is Jesus who called
And if we believe we'll obey
