Filbrun Family Update October 2022

Dear friends and family, we hope this finds each of you doing well. We have had another busy month here in Siem Reap. We are always surprised at how fast the weeks and months go by. As always we are thankful for Gods protection and peace as we are on this mission here in Cambodia.

Above is a beautiful sunrise on one of our morning runs. We had great intentions to join the half marathon that happens yearly in SR but we have since given that up. Maybe next year :)

Britton enjoyed giving our new friend Rany a driving lesson. Rany is a pastor and translator here at ICF. Him and his wife just announced they are expecting their first baby. They are the sweetest couple and we have enjoyed getting to know them. Rany is working hard to attain his drivers license.

Kristy had the privilege to teach the "Adventure Kids" one Saturday morning. We enjoyed learning about "prayer" together.

Emotional support team while I taught.

The children enjoyed coloring these pages before we headed to swim. The "Adventure Kids" program takes place every other Saturday. It is a time for the expat children to come together and learn about Jesus in English. We usually have a lesson, games and then we go to swim across the road at the wake park.

One of the buildings at ICF. The social team uses this building for first aid, counseling and many other projects.

One weekend night we took our children to a little local mall.

Thankful for the coffee to help us through.

We had an encounter night one Wednesday evening. Britton and I were on the prayer team. What a blessed night to spend worshipping and praying to the living God. We had the opportunity to pray over many people in Jesus name.

We always enjoying having Khmer friends new and old come over to our home.

Brittons Outreach team praying before they go to the village for a Bible study.

Its been so rainy and muddy this month, making the roads in the village quite difficult to travel.

This little boy was so excited with his new backpack. He couldn't stop telling us all about it.

Soup "Tome Kha" and rice for lunch at ICF.

Finishing up teaching the fruits of the Spirit in the 'After School' program. It has been a fun teaching the children about all the fruits as well as the fruits of the Spirit.

This man is a new believer. Here he is holding a Bible for the first time. We are witnessing many miracles and seeing the work of the Holy Spirit do amazing things in the villages. We are feel so blessed to be apart of this revival.

Another "Adventure Kids" Saturday. Teaching the children about prayer and how we don't communicate to God like a robot but we can pray to Him from our hearts.

Pastor Khemry was a good robot example. The kids enjoyed telling the "robot" how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

The boys have been helping as lifeguards when the children swim. The boys continue to do very well in school. They keep quite busy with their service in the IT team, music lessons, youth night, and serving with other various projects. We are very proud of them. It is a blessing to see them have a heart to follow Jesus.

One of the language schools in Siem Reap had a fun cooking night. We were able to learn how to make three different Khmer dishes. Above is fellow ICF staff, Aline from Brazil and Calvin from Canada/Hong Kong.

Lots of foreigners joined this cooking class. It is always fun to hear the history behind some of the khmer food that we eat.

The boys enjoyed taking a bike ride one Monday morning with their Dad.

Kristy was sick for about a week and ended up in the hospital. She had a viral and bacterial infection. Her white blood cell count went down to 5 when it was supposed to be at 153. High fever and diarrhea led to being severely dehydrated. We thank God for good hospitals and a loving community around us here in Siem Reap. We also are thankful for health and Gods healing. Thank you to everyone who prayed for us during that time.

Thankful to be in a city with better health care.

Flowers and so many other gifts were dropped off by several ICF staff. We felt so loved.

Britton found chicken noodle soup at a local expat store. What a blessing little comforts are.

Carter and his drum teacher.

Beloved Kitty, Rosie

Carter has been enjoying playing drums during the Adult Service on Sunday mornings.

One morning we fishing with our friends.

We caught the tiniest little fish and they made a fire and grilled them. They enjoy taking out the insides and then eating the whole little fish.

Stopping on our way to take a picture together.

Two days a week Kristy joins the kids pastor in the village. It is a time to connect with children whose parents are already apart of a Bible study. They pray over each child and teach them different Bible stories or lessons about Jesus.

The After School program children had a small competition to see who could draw the tree with all the fruits of the spirit. They did a good job. This is only one grade. The After School program is run by the social team at ICF. Working in accordance to the government the social team is not allowed to teach the children about Jesus, so they have partnered alongside the Kids church team. This is where we come in and are given the opportunity to share about Jesus for an hour every afternoon

Another morning in the village

Savanna always enjoys trips to the local coffee shop with Mom or Dad

Brittons Bible study...leading the children in prayer together

Another Sunday morning Adult worship celebration

One Saturday morning ICF hosted a competition for all the Bible study small groups. They have around fifty small groups. We enjoyed serving this day. Britton and I are in charge of leading a marriage small group but we haven't started yet so we just helped instead of competing. One of Brittons jobs was helping grill over 100 pounds of chicken.

A fun morning together with all. Gracie also joined the cooking competition with her Bible study small group.

Sunday mornings are spent joining the other 200 plus volunteers to prepare for serving around one thousand children. We meet around 7 am for breakfast and prayer. And then everyone divides into their groups and teams.

Savanna enjoys helping as well. Sometimes she joins the kids church program with some other friends and sometimes she joins her Mom and sister in the Mighty Kids program.

Monday mornings are days off for ICF staff. We have a lot of catch up work to do around the house. The children usually take off school. This specific morning we spent making some applesauce together. It has been around five years since we have been back in the states for fall time. Educating our children about applesauce and preserving food for the winter is always a fun conversation.

This was quite a high cost to pay for all these apples as they are imported from other surrounding cooler countries. We are so grateful to anyone who financially supports our family. This is a small way to help our family feel connected to our culture.

And of course cinnamon rolls to help us feel like we can experience a bit of fall where we are.

Our family is all doing really well. We feel we have adjusted into our work and our life here in Siem Reap. We are really enjoying making new friends here and are thankful for all the opportunities God is bringing into our lives. We have so much to be thankful for and we praise God for His faithfulness in all things.

"All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before Him, for dominion belongs to the Lord and He rules over the nations." ~Psalms 22:27-28
