March Update From the Filbrun Family 2023

HEY friends, family and supporters! Thank you for checking in and reading our blog every month. We enjoy sharing our photos with you. We try our best to take pictures throughout the month. Some of us enjoy taking photos more than others ;) And we don't always get pictures of each event or project we are involved with. But we try! This month is the beginning of hot season. We have had a heat index of 108 degreese a few days this month. Lots of sweat and sleepy afternoons. We missed out on hot season last year because we were in the States so we have forgotten how hot it actually gets here! But nevertheless we are grateful to be here in Cambodia serving Jesus with all of our hearts. Some days are happy, some days are difficult but we have so so much to be grateful for! We thank Jesus to be alive and serving Him in this specific country.

Above is a picture of our yummy lunch at the ICF veranda where they serve lunch every day for the staff. ICF does an excellent job at taking care of their staff in various different ways. We feel so loved and appreciated.

Here is a picture of Savannas school. It is actually much bigger than this. This is just one of the buildings. We are grateful for a safe and happy spot for her to enjoy school at.

A little after school snack from "The Muffin Man". Siem Reap has so many foreigner shops and restaurants.

International Women's Day is a holiday that is celebrated here in Cambodia. Everyone gets time off work. ICF chooses to have a big event at church for this special day. Above is the invitation for all the women.

Savanna got her hair trimmed and a little color added to the end.

'Adventure Kids' Saturday morning program. We invite any International English speakers to join this class. We spend the first hour having a short Bible lesson, song, maybe a game or verse learning competition. Afterwards we take them all across the road to the wake park to spend time swimming and enjoying some ice cream before their parents pick them up.

If you care to know, ICF has many different children groups. We have the 'Mighty Kids' which is ages 4-6. We have 'Gods Kids' which is ages 7-9. And we have Adventure Kids which is ages 10-13. And then it goes to '180' which is the name of the Youth Group.

This is the Sunday evening Adventure Kids. I (Kristy) have been put in charge of designing a new lesson for this evening program. I also have been given responsibility for leading this class.

Britton and I have been trying to incorporate as much protein into our diet as well as our children's diet. It seems to help us not loose to much weight and fight infections.

As you seen in our previous post we were really busy sorting all the donated clothes for the Second Hand Shop. Here are all the bags ready for the Campus team to come pick them up in a Tuk Tuk.

The night before we spent several hours hanging all the clothes on the racks. We started setting up the booth around 8am the morning of the event. Here we are arranging flowers to decorate the shop.

I had a wonderful team around me helping me organize everything. But it was a lot of work for me! I was feeling very relieved when the event was over.

My dear friend Aline welcoming the women.

The church put on a beautiful program for the women. It was a wonderful evening.

Happy to meet David for dinner. His first time drinking rootbeer.

David blessed us with some wonderful gifts. We will keep them forever.

Enjoying some tacos at a local park.

This is Davids sweet Mother. We gave her all of our 100 reil khmer money. The 100 reils are worth the same as a penny. So we have collected them over the past five years. They are difficult to count so we just gave them to his Mother. She spent time calculating them and ended up with around $70 dollars worth which probably paid around a months rent. It makes us smile to see her so happy!

Heading out to see Davids land in Kampong Speu. Stopping to get tires checked.

A happy day watching a soccer team play. A few team players were from ICF. Also the worship band did the halftime show. Lots of support from fellow church members.

A sweet evening spending time with Hav and his older sister. Thankful for all these dear relationships God puts in our path.

Close relationship with Jesus <3

Lots and lots of meetings

Baptism Sunday

A sweet birthday dinner for our friend Aline

I've never met someone more sweet then this dear Brazilian friend.

So pretty all the yellow flowers

A sweet little grandma on the Moto

Grandma :) this one is for you. Imagine if you had to ride on the back of the Moto like this haha But I'm sure this dear Grandma has did this all her life. She really smiled at me when I passed her.

Victory in Jesus sticker and lesson planning at the local coffee shop.

Our sweet Rosie disappeared this month. We don't know where she went. We are quite sad. Her favorite little toy was packed away in the memory box. (Wait until the end of the blog to see some happy news about Rosie)

A few pictures of Savannas class. She's doing very well and we are happy for her.

The other children are doing very well too! Gracie started her 12th year and I really need to get a picture! So hopefully next month I will have a few things to share about their progress.

Saturday morning Adventure Kids to the local waterpark.

So much fun!

A yummy lunch after swimming all morning.

A few family pictures one Sunday evening before church.

Teaching Sunday evening before our video lesson.

Homemade pizza is a big treat!

Designing 100 eggs and crosses to hang from the ceiling for Easter.

Birthday gifts from friends.

Taking Savanna to a little coffee shop to work on homework.

A birds eye view of ICF. You can see the waterpark and then right across the road is the ICF campus.

Brittons Outreach team praying and doing a briefing before they head out into the villages.

Lots of crosses to cut and paste for the Easter Sunday celebration.

Thankful when Britton helps me with some of my projects.

A little birthday gift with Portuguese on it. So fun to have met friends from all over the world. We are so blessed.

Our beloved washing machine broke and it took a few days to get it fixed. This little shop washed all of our sweaty dirty clothes.

Eating ice cream treats before tackling the laundry pile.

One morning we went out to a place called 'Rotna Eik'. The government is making people move here so they can develop the land here in Siem Reap. They are forcing people off their land to a new location about an hours Moto drive from the city. About 600,000 people are being moved here. It is an undeveloped land, like a hot sandy desert. There are few trees, no jobs, one little school. It is a very hopeless situation for many.

The Outreach team is connecting all the ICF church members together who have had to move here. Brittons team goes once a month here. The ICF Kids pastor and I joined one day to see if we can begin to develop a program for the children in this area.

At one point we found some of the children gathered together trying to study some school. Tears flowed as we prayed over them. Seeing children suffer is a difficult thing to witness.

We brought out lunch here this day for the team. It was so miserably hot.

Sweet team members

Traveling with some of the best leaders and Evangelists that we know. We thank God for a time of knowing them and learning from them.

Praying over homes and with people we came in contact with.

Jesus we love you. You are the one who brings lasting peace and comfort into situations that are hard to understand. We trust you hear our prayers. We trust you have a good plan for each person who commits their life to you. Without you we are nothing. Lead us to people who need to be comforted or reminded of your unfailing love.

Birthday letter from the Sweetest Grandma!!! Love you Grandma. You are a bright spot in my life too! I can't wait to see you again!

Birthday wishes on ICF staff telegram page.

Carter was put on a little flyer for the wake park :)

Gracie and her Khmer Bible Study group. They meet every Thursday night.

Britton and Pastor Eddie at the gym. Eddie is the lead pastor at ICF.

The boys invited some of their Khmer friends over to play games one Sunday. This whole group serves the church in setting up and taking down all the chairs each Sunday.

Britton and Sophy with their village Bible study group.

Our boys are getting very good at wake boarding now.

Eating dinner with our beloved friends from MoungRessi. We met Chumno in 2016 when we first visited Cambodia. We love him and his little family.

We enjoyed showing them ICF.

Another Sunday evening program

Mondays are day off of work. We enjoy making yummy dinners on this day.

A new found local snack that tastes like Peanut Brittle.

Planning on making these Empty tomb rolls for Adventure Kids Sunday evening class on Easter. We did a little practice run with homemade dough since we can't find the tube rolls here.

Office vibes with iced coffee from sweet friends.

Britton with one of the village Bible study groups.

Sweet times with a special friend.

Yummy American breakfast.

Britton was sharing with a fellow missionary that our cat had disappeared and we ended up adopting his cat. Their family was moving to a new home and couldn't take their cat with them. The kids named this new cat 'Gary'.

LOOK who came back just this morning. We can't believe it! What a shock to find her downstairs this morning. We are so happy and so is she to be home. Oh how we love our Rosie girl.

So now we have two cats. We are also currently fostering two little puppies for the weekend. We have had one visit from the neighbors complaining about al the barking. All these animals seem to be causing a bit of stress haha

Early morning face time chats with our beloved Pastor and his wife. Our long term mentors. We are so thankful for Pastor Greg and Shawn. They have mentored us for years now. God is good and intentional to give us people who can help us navigate our life. Thank you for investing into our lives. We will be forever grateful.

If you've made it to the end of this, then you must be a faithful follower! We are grateful for each one of you! May you be blessed today in whatever endeavor God has called you too!
